Canadian gold explorer Azimut Exploration has confirmed a significant gold discovery at its Rosa Zone within the Wabamisk Property in Quebec’s James Bay region, with drilling results showing high-grade intercepts across a 1.4-kilometer strike length that remains open in all directions.
High-Grade Results Drive Expansion
The company’s maiden 3,633-meter, 26-hole drilling program delivered impressive results, with the standout intercept returning 3.26 grams per tonne gold over 9.35 meters within a broader 28.90-meter section grading 1.29 g/t gold. The drilling confirmed Rosa as a robust, laterally continuous gold system with encouraging grades and thicknesses throughout the tested area.
Azimut has immediately launched a minimum 2,000-meter follow-up drilling program to expand the discovery’s footprint and better define the geometry and controls on high-grade gold mineralization. The correlation between gold assays and visible gold in drill core proved generally excellent, though three holes showed significant gold intercepts without visible gold, suggesting the system may be more extensive than initially apparent.
Strategic Location in Mining Hub
The Wabamisk Property spans 673 claims covering 356 square kilometers in the Eeyou Istchee James Bay region, positioned strategically among established mining operations. The property sits 70 kilometers south of Dhilmar’s Eleonore gold mine, 42 kilometers northeast of Rio Tinto and Nemaska Lithium’s Whabouchi lithium deposit, and 13 kilometers east of Fury Gold Mines’ Clearwater Property.
Major powerlines pass through or near the property’s eastern boundary, while the North Road highway runs 37 kilometers to the south, providing crucial infrastructure access. The nearest community is Nemaska, a Cree village municipality located 55 kilometers southwest of the discovery.
Broader Exploration Potential
Beyond Rosa, Azimut has identified three additional major target areas across the property, all associated with east-west subparallel shear zones and strong arsenic soil anomalies. These targets straddle the La Grande-Opinaca subprovince boundary, a geological setting known for hosting significant mineral deposits in the James Bay region.
The company plans comprehensive work programs across all three areas in 2026, including ground geophysics using induced polarization, prospecting campaigns, and likely additional drilling. Combined with the adjacent Wabamisk East Property, Azimut controls a strategic 51-kilometer strike position in one of Canada’s most prospective mineral belts.
What’s Next
With the follow-up drilling program already underway, Azimut expects to accelerate expansion of the Rosa discovery while simultaneously advancing exploration across its broader target portfolio. The company’s systematic approach, using industry-standard analytical protocols including advanced PhotonAssay technology, positions it to rapidly advance this significant gold system in one of North America’s premier mining jurisdictions.
